What’s in the box
Published package lists show what you’re paying for beyond the arm:
- Lincoln Cooper: FANUC CRX arm with tablet pendant, Power Wave R450, AutoDrive 4R100 wire feeder, Magnum PRO air-cooled torch, Cooper app, a palm station for teaching, and on the cart version a fixed table with casters.
- Hirebotics: UR8 Long arm (about 1.75 m reach), Miller Auto Deltaweld 350, Tregaskiss air-cooled torch, operator controls with e-stop, a 48 × 32 inch mobile cart, Beacon software and a consumables kit. Warranty is 15 months on the arm, 3 years on the welder and 2 years on other parts, with about two weeks’ lead time.
- Vectis: UR10e arm on a Strong Hand Rhino cart with 66 fixturing pieces, a weld template library, shipping and lifetime support, per an older product sheet.
Fixture tables, positioners, water-cooled torches, fume extraction and welding screens are usually extra. On a cobot welder, people stay near the cell, so plan arc-flash screening and fume control even though the arm itself is collaborative.
How to choose a cobot welder
- Start from your welding process and power source. If your shop already runs Lincoln, Miller or Fronius machines and consumables, staying with that brand keeps parameters and spare parts familiar.
- Match reach to your largest part. The CRX-10iA/L reaches 1,418 mm, the UR8 Long about 1.75 m, and the CRX-25iA 1,889 mm. Parts longer than the reach need a positioner, a rail or repositioning.
- Check how teaching works. All of these let you hand-guide the torch to points; the differences are in weld templates, weaving options and how easily operators save and reuse programs. Ask for a demo on your own part.
- Plan fixturing. Repeatable fixtures matter more than the robot for consistent welds. Our note on cleanup tool reach and clearance around weld corners shows the kind of geometry check to do before ordering.
- Compare full quotes. Our cobot quote checklist lists the lines to line up between bids.
AI welding systems such as Path Robotics’ cell, which the company says needs no programming, are sold as a subscription with no public price and aren’t cobots in the usual sense; treat them as a separate option for high-mix shops. For the arms themselves, see our guides to FANUC CRX and Universal Robots, and for robot budgets in general, how much an industrial robot costs.
