IROS 2027 will be held September 27 to October 1, 2027 at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence, Italy, according to the official IROS 2027 website. The theme is “Human-Centric Robots for Sustainable Life.” The paper submission deadline is March 1, 2027, as listed in the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society deadline calendar.
As of October 19, 2026, the official site is a teaser page. It does not yet post the full call for papers, the other proposal deadlines, registration fees or hotel blocks.
What’s confirmed
- Full name: 2027 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems.
- Dates: Monday, September 27 to Friday, October 1, 2027.
- Venue: Fortezza da Basso, Viale Filippo Strozzi 1, Florence. It’s a 16th-century Medici fortress converted into an exhibition center in 1967, now part of the Florence Congress & Exhibition Center.
- Sponsoring societies: IEEE, the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, the Robotics Society of Japan and SICE, under the auspices of the University of Florence.
- Topics flagged on the site: human-centric robotics, digital transformation (robotics with AI and IoT) and robotics for sustainability.
- Paper deadline: March 1, 2027.
Some conference calendars list the start as September 26. The official IROS 2027 site says September 27. Workshop days aren’t published yet, so book travel around the official dates and adjust once the program is out.
Deadlines you can plan around
Only the paper deadline is published for 2027. IROS has used the same calendar shape for years, so the past pattern tells you roughly when the other dates fall, but treat these as estimates until the 2027 call appears. For IROS 2025, the published schedule was competition proposals February 1, papers March 2, workshop and tutorial proposals March 15, special forum proposals April 1, acceptance notices June 30, final papers July 31 and late-breaking results August 20.
What that means for 2027:
- Start a full paper now if you’re aiming for the March 1, 2027 deadline. The 2027 submission page will be linked from the official site.
- If you plan to propose a workshop, tutorial or robot competition, expect proposal windows between February and April 2027.
- If you’re publishing in IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (RA-L), check whether the 2027 call offers the RA-L option for presenting at IROS and its earlier cutoff. That has been offered in past years, but the 2027 terms aren’t posted yet.
- Expect acceptance decisions around the end of June 2027, which leaves about three months to arrange visas and travel.
Getting there
Florence is easy to reach without a car. The official site gives these routes:
- By air: Florence Amerigo Vespucci Airport (FLR) is 4 km away. The T2 tram runs to Santa Maria Novella station in about 15 minutes.
- By train: Santa Maria Novella, the main high-speed rail station, is about 200 m from the fortress gate. Rome, Milan and Bologna connect by high-speed train.
- By car: the A1 motorway serves Florence, and there’s underground parking at the venue.
Italy is in the Schengen area. Whether you need a visa depends on your passport; check the Italian foreign ministry’s Visa for Italy tool. If you need one, request an invitation letter from the conference once registration opens and apply soon after your paper is accepted, since late September is busy travel season in Florence.
Registration and cost
Registration is not open and 2027 fees aren’t published. IROS registration usually has early and standard rates, with discounts for IEEE and RAS members and for students.
IROS or ICRA?
IROS and ICRA are the two flagship robotics conferences co-sponsored by IEEE RAS. ICRA is held in spring and IROS in autumn, and each runs on its own submission cycle, so a paper not ready for one can target the other. ICRA 2027 is in Seoul in May; see our ICRA 2027 guide for its dates, deadlines and fees.
We’ll add the full call for papers, other deadlines and registration fees here when the IROS 2027 organizers publish them.
