ABB’s industrial robots run from the IRB 1010, which carries 1.5 kg, to the IRB 8700, which carries 800 kg normally and up to 1,000 kg with its wrist pointing down. In between are medium arms (IRB 1520ID to IRB 4600), a modular large range (IRB 5710 to IRB 7720), four-axis palletizers, paint robots, delta and SCARA robots, and the GoFa, PoWa and YuMi cobots. All run on ABB’s OmniCore controllers. ABB doesn’t publish prices, and its robot business is being sold to SoftBank, with closing expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Source: ABB’s large-robot pages, including the IRB 8700. The IRB 5710 to 7720 robots form one modular range of 46 variants from 70 to 620 kg, which ABB completed at Automate in May 2024, calling the IRB 7710 the successor to the IRB 7600 (ABB release). ABB aims these at EV battery assembly, giga casting, press tending and car bodies, and says the IRB 5710 and 5720 are up to 25% faster than the older IRB 6700 and 6620. If you own an IRB 6700 or 7600, ask ABB about spare-parts support and the successor model.
Palletizers, paint, delta and SCARA
- Palletizers (4 axes): IRB 460 (110 kg, 2.4 m), IRB 660 (up to 250 kg, 3.15 m), IRB 760 (450 kg, 3.18 m, for full layers; the 760PT is for press tending).
- Paint: the IRB 5500 family for car bodies (the IRB 5500-27 carries 13 kg on the wrist with an integrated seventh axis) and the smaller IRB 52 (7 kg) for small and medium parts.
- Delta: IRB 360 FlexPicker (1–8 kg), IRB 365 (1.5 kg, five axes; ABB claims 120 picks a minute at 1 kg) and IRB 390 FlexPacker (up to 15 kg) for packaging.
- SCARA: IRB 910INV (3–6 kg, ceiling-mounted), IRB 920T (6 kg) and IRB 930 (12–22 kg).
For how these structures differ, see our types of industrial robots.
Cobots
ABB’s cobots are GoFa (5 to 12 kg family, with reach up to about 1.6 m), PoWa (six models from 7 to 30 kg at up to 5.8 m/s) and the small two-armed YuMi (0.5 kg per arm). Our GoFa vs PoWa comparison covers which to pick.
OmniCore controllers and software
All current ABB robots run on OmniCore, per ABB’s controller pages: the ultra-slim E10 and compact C30 for small robots, cobots, delta and SCARA arms up to the IRB 1600; the ruggedized C90XT; the V250XT for automotive and logistics; and the V400XT for the biggest robots up to the IRB 8700. ABB robots are programmed in its RAPID language and simulated offline in RobotStudio.
How to choose and buy
- Start from payload with the tool, then reach; ABB’s ranges overlap, so several families may fit. Our arm selection guide covers the method, and setting the tool offset is the first commissioning check.
- Pick the controller that matches your plant (cabinet size, protection).
- Request a quote through ABB or an integrator; prices aren’t published.
Because of the SoftBank sale, ask which legal entity will hold your warranty and service contract after closing; see our ABB Robotics guide. For rival lineups, see FANUC, KUKA and the big four comparison.
ABB’s IRB 460, 660 and 760 palletizers are compared with FANUC, KUKA, Yaskawa and Kawasaki models by payload and rated cycles per hour in our palletizing robot comparison.
